Picking Up Sts Along a Cast On Edge

Picking Up Sts Along a Cast On Edge

This video is to demonstrate how I pick up sts along a cast-on edge. The cast-on used for this piece is the long tail cast on, but would be similar to many other cast-ons including the cable co, German twisted co, etc.

In particular, this video is describing picking up shoulder sts for a sweater. When you pick up sts along the right shoulder, you will have RS (right side) facing you, and begin at the corner and count as you pick up your sts. Be sure to place your needle under both parts of the V for every st.

When you pick up along the left hand shoulder, you won’t be able to start at the corner with the RS facing, so you will need to pre-count your sts. Once you count the correct number for your size, I advise marking this st with a removable st marker to assure you start in the right spot. Insert your needle under both parts of the V, and pick up until you reach the corner st. Count your sts to double check you have the right number. Ta-da!

And not explicitly said in the video, but it is a good idea to go ahead and use the needles you’d be using to work the body of your sweater with to pick up those sts.
